Killer Sudoku Cage Calculator

By Andrew Boyko, developer of CageDoku · Updated

Enter the cage size and sum to see every possible digit combination. Add digits that must be in the cage or digits you have already ruled out, and the list shrinks as you narrow it down.

How to read the result

Each chip is one possible set of digits. A highlighted chip is the only possibility. Always in the cage lists digits that appear in every combination, so you can place them as candidates in every cell and remove them from the rest of the row, column or box if the cage lies entirely inside one. Never in the cage lists digits you can cross out of all its cells.

A quick example

A 3-cell cage with sum 8 has two combinations, 1-2-5 and 1-3-4. The digit 1 is in both, so it is always in the cage; 6, 7, 8 and 9 are in neither, so they are never in the cage. If you learn that one cell is a 5, only 1-2-5 remains.

Prefer a table?

The cage combinations chart lists every sum for 2- to 6-cell cages, and the cheat sheet is a one-page printable version.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Killer Sudoku combination calculator work?

Pick the number of cells in the cage and its sum. The calculator lists every set of different digits from 1 to 9 that adds up to the sum. You can require digits that must be in the cage, or exclude digits you have already ruled out.

Why can’t digits repeat?

In Killer Sudoku, digits inside a cage never repeat, so each combination is a set of different digits.

Does the calculator work offline?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, with no data sent anywhere.

Can I share a result?

Yes. The address bar updates with your settings, so you can copy the link. Example: ?n=3&s=15&in=9.

Practice it in CageDoku

Free, ad-free Killer Sudoku and seven more variants. Hints name the technique and highlight the cells, so you learn why a digit goes where it goes.
